THE DRY SEASON - LV

When the rainy season is gone
I will be home
the dry season when we are free and happy
When the moon is bright and the sky  clear
When we shall sing and play hide and seek dinidini like we used to
when we were younger
When we shall go collecting firewood in the brush or around the homestead
When we shall sit in the evening around the bonfire wang oo
When we shall learn to tell the old fiction tales ododo
of Mr. Hares and the hyenas, of the strange single eyed or ten eyed
ogres, of the leopards, the millipedes and the chicken, of the little
boy made of Clay lobo.
When the bush will be set ablaze and we are able to see further away
from one hill to another
When we shall equip ourselves with spears, bows and arrows, axe
especially the one called lukile, and local breed dogs and go hunting
for wild game like anyeri, obaggu, lacek and ayita
when we shall go extracting honey, bee combs and gather fruits like
oceyu, yaa, oywello and nyig pobbo.
When the rainy season is gone
there will be no hunger
when the granaries are full with millet, sorghum,
When food is in abundance especially dried meat ringu utwo
and the gigantic dark outward looking pots stacked in order of
their sizes one on top of the other are full each with a various type of
food ranging from vegetables to meat

When the rainy season is gone
When women won't have to struggle looking for food like they always do
because the men will go hunting and bring something home at the end of
the day.

When the rainy season is gone
When the women are the receivers and men providers.

When the rainy season is gone
When men learn to share and cooperate like the women do in the rainy
season when they share things like local liquid salts kado atonna,
When men learn to share their hunts basing on the number of spears
that have hit the animal as they all contributed to its death.
So that the baats, ems, and akic go to the respective spear owners.

When the rainy season is gone I will be home to enjoy and learn and we
are happy and nothing to worry about.

step by step - Limtek Victoria Poem                      STEP BY STEP
I am not born with a Silver spoon in my mouth
And my predecessors Neither were for sure!
I have nothing to boost of as my own when am in or out
show me the way show me the cure
He that inherits is a bad piper and his vocals so poor!
people do not dance to his tunes and don't sing along any more!

teach me how to play the pipe
teach me how to be a good vocalist
i don't want to be a ventriloquist
starting from the bottom atleast
i know am heading way up to the top
and starting from the top
you know you are heading down
For to climb a tree you don't start from the middle or the top
A step by step process like growing up
You can't break the rule.
But I am trying to break the law of gravity
By going up and never to come down

Life Is Like a Maze.

LIFE IS LIKE A COMPLICATED MAZE
"I look to my past and all i see is that i have come a long way
i try peeping into the future all insight is bleakness
maybe am short sighted or color blind so i ask myself 'why GOD?' and no answers ensued then i bow down to god and pray
i cry from deep inside my heart because i know if i tear on my cheeks it will show to the world my weakness.
my heart says to my body 'stay strong and keep moving'
but my mind is stressed and depressed, my body and my physical self is tired and weak and my soul feels like flying away for good
i am stuck and lost in a complicated maze
where even the nearest person to you can not help you,
even if you tried seeking for they help by screaming at the top of your voice, do you have a choice, no reason to rejoice
perhaps they are lost too and are trying to find their way through,
i can tell how far i have come but it is problem telling how far i am going
life is a maze and am lost in it am trying to crack its code to get through."

WILL OBAMA GET A WARM WELCOME ?

South Africa may not welcome Obama warmly Though many people look forward to welcoming the US president in his tour of Africa, not all are happy with the American president's visit and not all will welcome him with an open arm. The guardian wrote that "Obama should not expect red-carpet treatment from all South Africans, despite the historic affinity between the civil rights and anti-apartheid movements. Workers, students and Muslim groups are among those determined to give Obama a bumpy landing when he descends on Africa's biggest economy. "NObama" is the cry from the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Communist party, which have called for "all workers" to join mass protests including a march on the US embassy in Pretoria on Friday. Academics and students have vowed to boycott the University of Johannesburg's award of an honorary law doctorate to Obama. The Muslim Lawyers' Association has called for the president to be arrested as a war criminal." (http://m.guardian.co.uk) One Bongani Masuku, Cosatu's international relations secretary, said: "Obama is perpetuating American foreign policy. The US is an empire run on behalf of multinational companies and the ruling class of America. US foreign policy is militarising international relations to sponsor and make their own weapons." He added that "I'm not disappointed because I didn't expect anything. It's not about the individual; it's not about the race he came from. It's about the class he represents. It's like he's the gatekeeper for white monopoly capital. He promised things we knew he wouldn't be able to do." Steven Friedman director of Rhodes and johannesburg universities said "I don't think that it's unkind to say that he's done absolutely nothing for this continent. In some respects, George W Bush did more for Africa than Barack Obama. So any sense that this is Africa's president who's actually out there trying to win the continent for the US is not the case. I can't remember a US administration that has shown less interest in the continent than this one." A lot of other people also cautioned about the need not to 'exploit' Mr Nelson Mandela whom Obama has met once, in a Washington hotel back in 2005. One Goldberg, 80, said: "I think it would be such an intrusion on an old man who's ill. We exploit Nelson Mandela and I object to that. We need to respect this great man's privacy because people go to see Nelson Mandela not to support Nelson but to gain support for themselves, and this is exploitation." While speaking from Washington, Ben Rhodes, the White House deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, said: "While we're in South Africa, we are going to be very deferential to the Mandela family in terms of any interaction that the president may have with the Mandela family or with Nelson Mandela. "Ultimately, we want whatever is in the best interest of his health and the peace of mind of the Mandela family. And so we'll be driven by their own determinations in that regard. "We'll be in touch with them. The president wants to support them in any way. He's supporting them with his thoughts and prayers as it is. And if he has an opportunity to see the family in some capacity, that's certainly something that we may do." (http://m.guardian.co.uk)

what does Obama have for Africa?

Obama visits Africa WHAT DOES OBAMA HAVE FOR AFRICA WHEN HE VISITS? Obama was elected in 2008 as the first black president of the United States, the then Illinois senator's;currently occupied by Kwame Raoul, election to the big office raised a lot of excitements across the world most especially in Africa since he has the African background and heritage. In his first major tour of the continent the US president,Barack Obama is set to trip to Africa this week starting on wednesday where he willl visit Senegal, south Africa and Tanzania (july 1) A lot of speculations have been made over the major themes of his tour to the three African countries But having analysed a lot about it by consulting various sources it's easy to tell what the agenda of the visit is. 1. BEIJING INFLUENCE and ECONOMIC COMPETITION Since mainly China and also other countries like India and Russia had built, and explored great opportunities in the continent, by building good partnership and engagement with most African countries in terms of economic investment, of which US has not, we can say one reason for the visit is laying foundation for the development and boost of economic partnerships with African countries. In Tanzania most especially Chinese leader Xi Jinping had paid a state visit already. "After Mr. Xi’s March visit, in which he spoke of Beijing’s “sincere friendship” with Africa and said its trade with China reached $200 billion in 2012, Washington stressed its “positive agenda” with the continent."(thehindu. Com) South Africa a research specialist Haroon Bhorat, a Professor of Economics at the University of Cape Town said that “There hasn’t really been a presence of U.S. companies since 1994 taking advantage of the new opportunities in South Africa. And then mainly the new ones are taken up by China, by India and, to some extent, even by Russia. So you see new emerging markets entering into other emerging markets like South Africa and taking advantage of economic opportunities in a way where U.S., with a foothold, arguably hasn’t done enough.” 2. PROMOTE DEMOCRACY Being a foundation, advocate and flag bearer for democracy and Obama trip to these African countries, it is quite obvious that another reason is to urge africans to engage with the U.S. in promoting democracy and democratic development in African countries. 3. THE GAY AGENDA In December 2011 Obama signed a memorandum instructing federal agencies to promote the human rights of gay people overseas, where Obama himself inserted himself into Africa's bitter debate publicly on homosexuals' legitimate rights especially in countries that criminalize homosexuality, and Senegal is one of such countries. There we can say the gay issue is most likely to surface. In one west African nation, Ivory Coast an event took place and AP said "The U.S. embassy here made history earlier this month by hosting a gay pride reception attended by about two dozen openly gay Ivorians. Despite the groundbreaking nature of the event, reporters were barred from attending, and the only mention of it was a short blurb on the embassy website posted the following week." (AP) the Associated Press also said that the event in Abidjan, Ivory coast "encapsulates the Obama administration's cautious promotion of gay rights in Africa, an issue that is likely to come up during his visit this week to three African nations — South Africa, Senegal and Tanzania — the last two of which punish homosexuality with jail time" One individual who attended the event at US embassy Abidjan is quoted to have asked if Obama will discuss about the issue pertaining gays and lesbians when he comes to senegal "It will be very important for him to talk about us with African leaders, and also in his speeches. It will give us strength to let us know that we are not alone." Anonymous
